Contractor Management and Induction
The requirement to provide Work Safety briefings or Inductions is becoming commonplace. These briefings provide an opportunity to ensure contractors not only recieve safety information but can also be used to provide information that is relevant to other issues of quality and work practice.
A program has been developed that contains information relevant to Work Safety, Australian Standards, Remote COnnections/Service, Behaviour in he Ward, and a quiz to test competency. The aim is to cover not only legislated OH&S requirements but to provide contractors with helpful information on working within the Hospital.
There are four stages of Contractor Orientation as follows:
a. General OH&S Induction (common to all contractors 1 hr)
b. Biomed General Induction (common elements for Biomed at all sites 1 hr)
c. Biomed Site Induction (specific info for each site 15 mins)
d. Ward Induction (required at every visit 5 mins)
The Contractor Orientation program includes certificates and an online registery of contractos and induction status. The Contractor Orientation Process is described in detail showing how it can be adopted for use by other services. There is documented provision for new contractors under training and entry when induction is not possible due to time constraints.
The result of this program is greater confidence in process and fewer incidents relating to contractors behaviour and performance.
